birthday nite!!!

I get out of class at 8:15 PM and head to HEB for some last minuet items to make my birthday evening even more fantastic. Arrived home around 8:45PM and hop in the shower. 9:15, Charity arrives at my apartment to finish getting ready. We then realize that it is 9:45PM and both of us are getting tired. Pushing past the urge to wash my face and call it a night with a good book and a glass of wine, we continue curling, straightening, concealing, blending and shimmering. By the time we get ready to go it is 10:45 PM. The plan was to head out to Le Blanc, the hottest night club in San Antonio. We then realize that we have not been to a club for a good three years and remember that it is not so cool to show up before midnight. So, we meet Angela and Katie a Kona Grill for their extended happy hour. 11:45PM we finally get to Le Blanc. It was like a blast from the past, taking me back to Halloween 2005, when it was called Aruba and I tripped down the stairs due to the unforgiving shoes I was wearing. Looking around it would be safe to say that the majority of the children around me had to have a fake I.D. to get in as a minor.

Charity peaces out early so she wouldn't be such a mess at work the next day and I latch on to Matt! Problem one, Matt was with DJ. Problem two, I was with DJ on my 21st birthday and it wasn't pretty. Problem three, DJ was dead set on makeing this birthday a repeat of last years. My mission: drink as little as possible while making DJ think I was no where near sober! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!

It's my birthday today! WOO HOO! another year older not so much wiser! This weekend was supposed to be great but i'm not so sure of that now. I had to change my birthday plans on friday night because UT didn't get the memo that i am the center of the universe this weekend and they are having their first home game on saturday. stinking cows! but i will try to make the best of it at matt's el rancho.

It's also soo funnie to see who comes out of the woodworks to wish you a happy birthday on facebook. Like people i haven't spoken to all summer write "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHICK!" like we are best friends that talk everyday. don't they know i don't even talk to my best friend everyday and i still haven't heard from her yet... whatever, i don't think i even called her until the after noon on her birthday. we are bad friends which is why we are best friends.

o yeh and i woke up yesterday with a huge zit on my chin!! happy birthday to me. there isn't enough concealer in the world that will cover this one up!

word of the day

BERATE:
To scold severely or angrily.

"i would berate the guy if he would answer my phone call."

This doesn't even sound like a real word. But apparently it was used in the Washington post in 1981. Do people even talk like that? "I'm going to berate you!" If someone said that to me I don't think I could take them seriously. I expect this word to be written in some turn of the century novel not in everyday conversation. Perhaps I will try using it in a sentence and see what kind of reaction I get.

Hiking with Irish Men

Today was epic. But before I can describe today I must describe last night. We went downtown and ended up at the pub called Doolins. It was a fun Irish pub… big party! So we are mingling, everyone thought it was great that we were from Texas, and I ran into this guy and as soon as he says hello I realize he is Irish. I see my PS I Love You fantasy flash before my eyes! You know, I’m traveling and meet a really cute Irish guy who falls desperately in love with me and I with him and he asks me to marry him ... you know the story. Except, my fantasy always took place actually in Ireland.
So, anyway, we end up hanging out with him and his fellas for the rest of the night. We were having a blast… playing 1,2,3 make a funnie face with the camera and what not. At the end of the night I gave him my number not realizing the fact that I would not be able to talk to him again. On the way home I realize that I don’t have my camera thinking that I left it in the cab. I look at my phone this morning and I have one new text message… it reads:
“hey ana this is sean. The irish fella from last night. Are you missing a camera because I found one in my back pocket.”
PERFECT!!! The luck if the Irish rubbed off on me for sure!! We meet up with him and end up going on the epic hike through some mountains in Squamish (funnie name, serious mountains), about 45 mins away from Vancouver. The hike took two and a half hours to walk up and victory was ours at the peek! There are not words to describe this view. I’m talking mountains with snow caps (who knew it snowed anywhere in the middle of august?), pine trees over 100 feet below, the ocean… I was in aw.
We left Vancouver at 3PM and have just arrived back and it is 12 30AM

See you back in the States!

random sports thought

While watching the olympics in Vancouver, veronica and I came up with some interesting questions and conclusions about sports. The first and most important question we spent a good 45 mins debating was who thought up these events. Not the normal events like running track, swimming, shot put or high jump… everyone wants to know how much farther they can jump or throw than someone else and everyone wants to see how much faster they are compared to another. These sports make sense, the fittest, the fastest and the strongest wins the medal. But then there are sports like the pole vault. Who thought up this as a competitive sport? I imagine that the person who invented this had a thought processes along these lines,
“I am going to run with a very long stick, shove it into a hole and hoist myself over another stick that is placed very high over my head. I am then going to try this and see how many other idiots I can convince to try and bet me.”
This man/woman must have been broke and needed a quick way to make money, so he gambled with his friends on something he knew he could do.
Then there is water polo. This sport is over 100 years old. After evaluating this sport during the semi-final game, US v. Hungary, it is basically soccer with your hands while swimming and being timed to make the goal before the shoot timer goes off much like basketball. Let me re-cap, we have soccer, swimming and basketball all combined into one sport.
And my favorite, rhythmic gymnastics. WHAT?? Ballet/twirling/flips… I am in no way saying that these men and women are not athletes. Its takes a lot of sweat, training and injuries to achieve this level of competition, all I am saying is what, exact ally, is the criteria of an Olympic sport? And if just any sport can be an Olympic Sport then I motion to include Skip-It as an official Olympic sport in the 2012 Olympics in London.

Canada Eh?!

OHH Canada... so far we have been up town, downtown, chinatown, gastown, and yaletown. we have also gotten lost on the bus system and ended up west of town. this would not have been so bad had we not been on a time schedule trying to make it back to UBC (university of british colombia) for the Jack Johnson concert. which i might add was amazing!!! we have walked more blocks than i can count and have done pretty well with the direction thing. something many of you know i have HUGE issues with.

we are staying at UBC in some student apartments that they rent out during the summer. this campus is AAAmazing! (mom~ why didn't you make me go to evergreen??? it's just a ferry ride away from this paradise) anyway, this might be on my list of possible places to move post graduation. we over heard some people talking the other day saying that it has been outrageously hot the past few days.. 30* C! that's 86* F... what i would give for 86* in texas!

I'm trying to pick up the local lingo by dropping my O's and ending the majority of my sentences with EH?!? i have found that this can be used as a question or just because you are really excited!! or you could use it like me and just put it after everything you say. O and if anyone asks what we are doing here, we are on "holiday" not "vacation."

Jack Johnson Concert in Vancouver, CA!

this is a little clip of my personal favorite song of the night! you can hear me singing in the back ground!!

that's enough for tonight eh!

5 o' clock AM

Morning coffee is a funnie thing. Take that back, mornings are a funnie thing. some people wake up and are ready to hit the ground running, others ease into the morning; knowing they must set there alarm clock 15 mins before they really have to wake just so they can hit the snooze button twice. i would fit into the catagory of, i don't do mornings and when i do it requires 16 oz of water, 3 jumbo cups of coffee, yogurt and no communication of any kind until half past 9. nevertheless, i am up and awake at 5AM sitting at the airport waiting on my flight to vancouver, observing other's morning rituals. there is the person who thinks they are addicted to coffee but in reality their drink order takes 2 breaths to say therefore drowning the taste of the coffee all together, the families with the children whose normal body clock is awake at 5AM wanting breakfast, making dunkin donuts the ideal choice... good plan parents give the kids sugar before they bored an 8 hour internaitonal flight, the honeymooning couple who probably haven't slept in a good 48 hours but still can't get enough of each other, the flight staff who do this everyday, and countless other types of people who all do their mornings differently. and of course i am the college student that looks half dead but has the energy to get down the first cup of coffee, turn on the mac, check facebook and then blog.

have a fantastic day!!

TWILIGHT!

I just received notice that twilight the movie will be released NOVEMBER 21ST!!!!!

i have currently started rereading the series and am loving just as much, maybe more than, as the
first time! rekindling my relationship with edward cullen has yet again left me disturbed that creatures such as edward do not really exists. i do feel sorry for those guys out there that really do try.. ever since edward hit the book stands, every girl's standards were raised to a new bar. mine especially! requirements now include watching me sleep, putting me in danger only to save me later, surfacing in my room and having dazzling/smoldering topaz eyes (mind reading wouldn't be so bad either.)

on a more normal note... the countdown to NOV 21st has started and i am ecstatic!!!

8 FOR 8!!

it's never been done before!! michael phelps has won 8 gold medals at the 08/2008 olympics! thats 8 medals in 8 events in the 8th month of the 2008 year. i guess the chinese belief of the lucky number 8 has proven to be true for phelps. who ever that aussie was that said it couldn't be done is choking on his own words. the french are flabbergasted about what went down in the 400 melody and michael is yet again at a lose for words. if only michael had cried during his 8th and final medal ceremony, it would have completed my olympics experience. i mean come on, this guy has just made olympic history and he doesn't shed a single tear??? even i teared up and i'm not a big on crying. hopefully he will get home and it will all sink in and he will just lose it. and hopefully his words will come back to him. CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL PHELPS!

San Antonio... Over It!

After 5 days away I thought I would like getting back into my swing of things. Waking up and just being able to ease into the morning rather than have a 6 years old at my house at 7:30AM jump starting my day, skipping coffee and wanting to play. Not that I don't love that 6 year old with all my heart, he's my nephew, but 7:30AM is a little early for his late sleeping aunt. I thought I would be ready to get back to work but that turned into feeling more like prison than a job. The birthday party I was excited about going to last night ended up coming in second to a hot shower and reading Love in a Time of Cholera.

Two weeks ago I was excited about starting the fall semester. I had a great job possibility and 3 classes left before graduating... who wouldn't be excited about that. Then the job fell through and those three night classes have become a nuisance. I need to find something new to get me excited about being in San Antonio but the more I think about it the more I am just over it!

Sunshine!!

Today was fantastic! Woke up , had my coffee, went shopping and found the greatest vintage clothing store! Katie and I tried on lots of funny dresses and some that were super cute too! Then lunch with Karalea!! I didn't realize how much I missed her! She makes me smile from the inside out! Then we went to to beach. Tom Shank met up with us and we were all kind of lazy for around 4 hours; falling in and out of sleep, reading, talking... The sun was hiding behind some clouds so it was a little chilly. But my new favorite feeling is wearing my sweatshirt over my bikini!! I don't know why.. maybe because they just aren't supposed to go together!

the sun finally came out and we stated getting silly. We took some epic photos of our shadows! The sun can just change everything!! I think I have found my sunny place. Being here is just satisfying! Good people, Good food, and good fun! Graduation doesn't look so bad when the phrase "when i graduate.." is followed by, "i'm moving to santa barbara!"
